PS5 Linux Pioneer Quits After Last Hypervisor Exploit Leaked to Sony - briefly

Andy Nguyen, known as theflow0, announced he is stepping away from the PS5 scene and abandoning all further PS5 Linux development, including planned support for the PS5 Pro in 2027. He had invested months of work into turning PS5 consoles into Linux-based gaming machines capable of running titles like GTA V Enhanced with ray tracing. The trigger was other researchers discovering and reporting the final remaining hypervisor exploit to Sony, despite agreeing to wait until after GTA 6's release. Nguyen criticized the current scene as being filled with inexperienced "slop kiddies" using LLMs to create hacks they don't fully understand. This exploit disclosure effectively ends hopes for Linux on newer firmware versions.

This Linux mod was possible thanks to an exploit TheFlow had discovered that involved the PS5’s hypervisor, a key piece of the console’s anti-piracy and anti-tampering security software. TheFlow didn’t want to share the updated Linux mod and this important exploit until after the release of GTA 6. That game’s digital-only release means that players will have to buy it using the PSN store, and to do that, you need to be on the most recent firmware from Sony. And once Sony learned about the exploit, TheFlow and others in the community knew it would be patched out via a new firmware update ASAP. So, to let people still buy and enjoy GTA 6 and also use the Linux PS5 hack, TheFlow was reportedly waiting and working on the mod, with a 2027 release likely planned.

However, on September 15, a different PS5 hacker named Jordy shared the same hypervisor exploit TheFlow was working on with Sony via HackerOne, a site that companies use to pay people who discover hacks and other exploits and share them privately with those companies. According to Jordy, who uses AI tools to help him mod and hack, TheFlow didn’t share the hypervisor exploit with him. Instead, Jordy claimed he had independently found it using his “trusty AI clanker machine,” and had been asked by TheFlow to not disclose it until after GTA 6‘s release.

Windows 11 security update KB5121003 is being blamed for boot loops on some HP laptops after the August 2026 Patch Tuesday. Users say the patch installs, then the PC freezes on the HP logo and Automatic Repair rolls the update back. Some reports list install error 0x800f0845.

One HP OmniBook X owner said HP support told them the update changed BIOS settings, and a factory-default BIOS reset let later updates install. HP also shipped BIOS F.07 for that line with a note that it improves stability when Windows Update runs. An IT admin said similar install failures showed up on some Lenovo and Dell PCs, but Microsoft has not confirmed BIOS damage. Separate Lenovo reports describe AC power dropouts after the same patch, which is a different problem.

The new trains are iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate 27; older devices get iOS 26.7, iPadOS 26.7, macOS Tahoe 26.7, and macOS Sequoia 15.8. SANS counted 261 unique CVEs across those advisories; many of the same bugs appear on more than one product.

Serious fixes include a Bluetooth out-of-bounds write that can let a remote attacker run code, a video-encoder race that can give a sandboxed app kernel privileges, and a CoreMedia image bug that Apple removed instead of patching in place. Apple has not marked any of these issues as exploited in the wild. Install the update for your device now.

Ubisoft shut XDefiant down for good on 3 June 2025 after sunsetting new downloads in December 2024. A fan group calling itself the Rogue revival team posted on Reddit on 13 September 2026 that it has spent months reverse-engineering the game’s network protocols for a private server.

The team itself says this is unofficial, that gameplay is not possible yet, and that there is no ETA. Players would need a copy they already owned; the project says it will not share Ubisoft game files. This is not a company revival.

Square Enix never patched the Steam ports of Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns for modern high-FPS PCs. The first game hit Steam in October 2014, and players have relied on older community tools such as FF13Fix ever since.

On 13 September 2026, modder KartinX uploaded FF13NovaFix, a drop-in Direct3D 9 DLL that works across all three games. It corrects high-FPS facial animation, adds proper VSync, refresh-rate, and frame-limit options, fixes UI clipping above 720p, repairs XIII-2 timing bugs, and removes Lightning Returns’ forced VSync cap.

This is a Nexus Mods release, not an official Square Enix update.

The work is cross-sectional, so it does not prove games make the brain younger. Exercise meeting WHO guidelines tracked with better mood scores, not better test scores.

Blizzard’s Warcraft III: Reforged 3.0.0 patch (build 24268, 12 September 2026) now requires a live internet connection on the Reforged client and drops LAN from that client.

The official Forsaken Kingdom notes say LAN and offline play still work on the Classic client that ships with the game.

Blizzard gave no reason for the cut. The same patch also adds new servers, a 24-unit selection cap, and the paid Forsaken Kingdom campaign. Players who want a LAN party or a night without Battle.net have to launch Classic instead of Reforged.

A Polish developer, Pawel Szydlowski, shipped an iPhone app called ZuckOff that listens for Bluetooth ads from camera glasses and estimates how close they are. He told Business Insider the App Store listing pulled about 5,000 users in its first month.

The scanner matches manufacturer signatures used by Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Snap Spectacles; a hit means compatible hardware is nearby, not that the camera is on.

Meta’s glasses already flash a recording light - ZuckOff is only a second warning, and a quiet scan is not proof the room is clean.

Free scanning stays on-device; ZuckOff Pro adds background alerts.

The official site is blunt: signal strength is rough distance, no direction, and some pairs go quiet after they pair.

Daniel Vávra posted a four-panel of Katherine from Kingdom Come: Deliverance II the scan of Czech actress Kristýna Leichtová, the vanilla in-game model, DLSS 5 with settings he likes, and the same shot with every slider slammed.

He says panel three is closer to the scanned actress because neural lighting pulls out nose, eye, hair, and neck detail already in the model and normal maps.

Panel four is what he calls a random-idiot max preset, not the intended look.

He still flags uncanny-valley / soap-opera risk if the result gets too real.

Blizzard has officially announced Diablo V at BlizzCon 2026, with a planned release in spring 2029. The teaser presents a darker premise: Diablo has won, Sanctuary has fallen, and its heroes have been defeated.

In related news, Blizzard president Johanna Faries said at BlizzCon 2026 that an animated Diablo series is in development with Netflix. Blizzard revealed a new game simply called STARCRAFT at BlizzCon 2026 on September 12.

It is a story-driven open-world shooter aimed at 2030, not a StarCraft II sequel.

The official account posted the Dominion trailer with the line “Defend mankind. Join the Dominion.”

Creative director Dan Hay, formerly of Far Cry, said the camera drops to the ground: you are the unit, not the commander.

Platforms were not listed.

NVIDIA's DLSS 5 is live in NBA 2K27 on GeForce RTX 50-series cards, adding a 3D-guided neural render pass that restyles lighting and materials after the engine draws the frame.

The company itself says turning that pass on costs about 50 to 60 percent of raw GPU performance. Hardware Unboxed’s independent 4K test on an RTX 5090 measured 192 FPS without the feature and 76 FPS with it when frame generation was left off.

Their new image-quality analysis finds real gains on faces and arenas, plus motion artifacts and object mismatches the filter does not fix. DLSS 5 is optional in 2K27 and can be toggled with F9; NVIDIA’s 370 FPS headline number includes Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation, not the neural pass alone.

Tucker Carlson published a two-hour interview Friday with Nate Soares, president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, who argues that the race to build superintelligent AI is on a path that would kill every person on Earth. Soares previously worked as an engineer at Google and Microsoft and as a contractor for the U.S. Defense Department, then spent more than a decade on AI alignment research at MIRI.

He is co-author, with Eliezer Yudkowsky, of the 2025 New York Times bestseller "If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies". In the interview they discuss whether such systems can be switched off, U.S.–China competition, weapons and biolabs, Neuralink, and whether there is still a way to halt the race.

PlayStation walked away from Hideo Kojima’s spy game PHYSINT over budget, profit, and exclusivity concerns, Bloomberg reports.

Sources told Jason Schreier that Death Stranding and its sequel did not hit PlayStation’s revenue targets.

The new project had already missed deadlines and was tracking well over budget, years from launch.

Sony also did not want to put hundreds of millions into a title that would not stay a permanent console exclusive.

Kojima said PlayStation notified him in June; Xbox has now agreed to publish PHYSINT on Xbox and PC.

Sony confirmed it stepped away and said the relationship with Kojima Productions remains.

Modder fromsoftserve has shipped version 1.01 of BB PC Remaster, a fan visual overhaul of Bloodborne on PC.

The September 10 update reworks materials in Hunter’s Dream and large parts of Central Yharnam, adds higher-resolution shininess maps, and fixes some texture bugs.

A 1440p pack and a new ReShade preset are included.

The mod is free on Nexus Mods and needs the ShadPS4 emulator plus a legitimate copy of the game.

It is not an official FromSoftware or PlayStation remaster.

Sony has not announced a PC port.
