Quote: | Honorable mention: MSI's new power cable that completely solves the burning issue from a mindbogglingly simple fix
Innovation comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, fixing a huge problem can be as simple as changing the color scheme on your cables - and this is exactly what MSI has done. They have managed to simply and cost effectively solve one of the biggest issues with the ATX 2.0 600w cables: improper contact. These cables require a ton of pressure (I was not able to connect them using one hand) and if you see any yellow visible - then it’s not properly connected. This is a very easy fix to potentially a very costly problem and we give MSI a hat tip for solving it this easily. |

This is what i have https://www.msi.com/Power-Supply/MAG-A850GL-PCIE5
The burning cables with the RTX 4080 was predominately ’user error’ (not pushing them home properly) and also using incorrect cables -otherwise shite Chinese ones!

to save money...
I don't buy crap myself. I buy quality cables etc. But even buying the best does not exclude you from having a bad cable. So you can't say it's user error without facts. The fact it can get that much heat in the first place is a serious STAY AWAY flag to me.
nVidia is off my list anyway forever with their prices. Only a idiot would spend the money they are asking. All you are doing is saying Hey nVidia I'm onboard with your pricing...but people don't get that. So nothing will change, they will keep charging absurd prices because people are willing to shell it out. Well, not me. My 6800xt runs everything at 2K at Ultra and Epic with zero issues...I don't need a better card for a Loooooong time. I will not be going 4K anytime soon because 2K is more than plenty. If anything I'll replace me LED with OLED 2K when the prices are realistic. |

I’ve never had a bad cable, because they come with a reputable a modular PSU - the point.
It’s the piggy back brigade sticking multiple third party cables on to their existing GPU connections that cause the issues.
The other issue is people clueless to the output of their PSU and its handling in such cases.
My MSI MAG 850 - which comes with the Gen 5 GPU coloured cable- has a 5 year warranty. I only buy quality components for that matter and in 34 years never had one issue with cables.
I have an RTX 4060 Ti, plenty capable of playing my games in 2k, which is what I researched prior to buying and building it.
But put it this way, people that can pay for a 4080/90 etc. don't care about heat, burning cables or power consumption. Just like people buy Porsche’s, Ferrari’s not for fuel economy. |
