it's another level of idiocy to play compressed audio over hi-res and lossless devices. Where is average user going to find flac and ape files these days is beyond me. It's all mp3, mp4 and aac. You can play that bit for bit no loss of compression over any output device and the quality of what you hear will depend on speakers and amplifier.
